Cubic zirconia (or CZ), is a mineral that is widely synthesized for use as a diamond simulant. The synthesized material is hard, optically flawless and usually colorless. CZ stones are visually very similar to a diamonds. It is almost impossible to tell them apart from diamonds with an untrained naked eye. Because of their low cost, stone hardness, and visual likeness to diamond, synthetic cubic zirconia has become the most gemologically and economically synthetic diamond used since 1976
